SENDING POTTED ROSES

Sending potted roses now.

We have come up with a great new way of sending potted roses through Australia post. Ready to plant now for those who do not want to wait for the bare rooted season. Please note we cannot send potted standards or 6ft weeping roses in the mail during the warmer months. Standard or 6ft weeping roses can only be ordered and sent in June/July as bare rooted plants.

Bush, climbers, David Austin, old world and carpet roses, - they can be sent right now in pots. (Subject to availability) If they are not available right now,  we can still put the order in for winter despatch as the bare rooted season approaches.

The boxes are made to fit 3 plants per despatch order. That can be any combination of roses so long as they are not standards or 6ft weepers. Prices of each box with 3 plants will depend on destination. (see freight prices on the link at the bottom of this page)

Three typical rose plants in 20cm pots before despatch.

Trimmed and ready for packing.

When we send roses in boxes, unfortunately we have to remove all flowers and foliage, leaving only 20cms of stem with some or no foliage. It basically can look like a bare rooted rose in a pot. The only difference is that the roots will be very established and once planted out, ( to our instructions - see planting instructions below) the rose plant will be in full leaf and flowers within 5-7 weeks depending on variety and soil conditions.

Roses travel very well in their specially prepared boxes.

Roses are dispatched daily to all parts of Australia (excluding Tas. and WA.)

The rose planting instructions are very simple and it is more important for us to tell you what not to do rather than tell you what to do.

What not to do - two things. Do not tease the roots and do not put any fertilizer under the roots.

You also do not need to put any type of rose compost in the hole. Even if its clay soil. The heavier soil, the better. Simply make a hole the same size as the pot - gentle tap the pot of the rose and place the rose in the hole. Put a bit of soil over the top and water it in. Its as simple as that. The only time people get into trouble is when they do to much, so keep it simple and get the best results possible! The first watering is the most important so water in well then after that - so long as soil is damp then it will be perfect.

If you cannot plant them out straight away, we urge you to water them every day until planted out, as they can dry out in pots very quickly. They are best planted in the ground straight away as a small pot is a very unnatural environment for a rose plant. We water all our potted plants at least once a day, twice a day when it is hot.
